10 Tips on How to Be a Fashion Icon
3:59:00 PMDo you want to be a fashion icon? Let's look at a few undeniable fashion icons for inspiration
Whether it be Audrey Hepburn's signature classic updo, formfitting wear, and costume jewerly or Kate Moss's fringy bangs and "I'm coming off a drug binge" look... Maybe it's the way short mock dresses hang on Twiggy's boyish frame or how her spider-like eyelashes make her eyes pop. Maybe a fashion icon is simply someone who dares to wear anything just to be noticed- Lady Gaga.
It's hard to put your finger on exactly the thing that makes someone a fashion icon, but here are some ideas to develop your own "signature style".
1. Dress for your body type/lifestyle.
Prioritize a proper fit over everything. Find fashion inspiration from your surroundings.
2. Mix and Match
Combine different brands, vintage/new, cheap/couture. It's way more interesting than sporting head-to-toe Abercombie or J. Crew.
3. Hit up the right stores for more unique pieces.
Go to places like T.J. Max, Ross, Forever 21, and Nordstrom Rack, where the selection is big and the turnover of new merchandise is high.
4. Buy things while on vacation.
This is your chance to visit unique boutiques and stores with different inventory.
5. Look around.
What celebrity's style are you drawn to? What combinations do they wear that you wouldn't think of? Take a look you like and put your own spin on it.
6. Know your colors.
What colors do you look good in? When do you receive the most compliments? Take note.
7. Beauty Routine.
It's easy to fall into the same old hair and make-up routines. Try switching it up! It will make people notice you.
8. Window Shop.
Like fashion but not its cost? Window shopping is the perfect answer. Take note of mannequins and get new ideas. Then you can take what you already have in your closet and recreate a similar look for free!
9. Find your "Signature" piece.
Have a favorite leather jacket? A favorite pair of heels? A favorite belt? Whatever it is, it can become your signature piece and people will start to associate you with it.
10. Work it girl!
Whatever it is- Own it. Wear it. Love it. Strut it. Confidence is key. Be comfortable with yourself. Wear what makes you feel good.
XOXO, Dylan
